All About Books, Etc.

So, in case you thought that all I ever write about is Narnia...I do have another blog! It's called All About Books, Etc., and it just recently underwent MASSIVE renovations. Now, instead of being exclusively "all about books" it now contains other topics related to my education (hence All About Books, ETC.). So please stop by!

Have you read Pride and Prejudice?

If you have, I would love it if you were to comment and tell me what you thought of it and if you would recommend it. I am especially wondering about any romance (appropriate or inappropriate). I can't wait to see your responses.

P.S. If you have anything to say about any of Jane Austen's other books, I'd appreciate if you told me about them, too.

Tagged... and I'm putting a new twist in it.

Jo-snazz has tagged me, so here are the rules. Actually, you can pick either or both of the following two ideas. I made the second one up and I hope that Joanna will forgive me.

1. Tell 6 things that you learned this past month, then tag six other people.
2. Tell 6 things about books. It can consist of favorite books, favorite genres and authors. After that, make a book list of 6 books and tag six people (I'd say that you could tag books, but they don't have blogs, now do they?)

So, I think that since I am have made up another type, I will do half and half.

Things that I have learned this past month:

-I really need to work on my sight reading.
-I actually can do math. ;)
-You shouldn't use words like "rather, somewhat or very" when writing.

Books:

-I love Charles Dickens.
-I also love Rosemary Sutcliff .
-Ancient Britain, Ireland, Scotland or Rome are my favorite genres.

Book Review II: David Copperfield

David Copperfield was an great book! A trifle long, perhaps,but I was by no means eager to see it end. This book started out very nicely, and the slower bits that I mentioned were in The Tale of Two Cities, were virtually non-existent, so if you have never read Dickens, this is the book to start with ( I've only read a few, so I reserve to right to change that!).

The gist of the story is this: a little boy grows in a normal childhood setting for the first few years of his life, with his sweet, young mother and doting maid, Peggotty. All to soon, however, his mother marries angry hard man and David's new father, Mr. Murdstone, hates him as does the latter's sister they persecute David until his mother dies when they send him off to a factory. Eventually, he runs away to an old aunt. He grows up in a happy family enviroment with his aunt and her rather eccentric companion, Mr. Dick, who is all but crazy. (This actually brings many chances of comedy to the story line.) This is just part of the beginning of the book, and the rest is very entertaining. There is some romance, and one time when he falls in love with a girl and her father is strongly against it, but they follow through and marry after he died ( I thought that that was sad). There is one other part when a couple run away together, but the author did a very good job portraying just how devastating it was to all concerned. On the whole, this was an excellent book, well worth reading.
